Surface

“You must find the place inside yourself where nothing is impossible.” -Deepak Chopra

I am really enjoying my acrylic’s class. The above surface was created by laying down many layers – adding subtracting, scratching, mixing, adding water, wiping – walking away, looking – adding, subtracting, waiting – all over the course of a couple of days. I never thought I could do this. Now I am so excited about it, I get up in the night and head to my studio.

“…..the original reason for art — to be a portal, an access point for the sacred so that when you see/experience it you experience yourself.” -Eckhart Tolle

About Judy Shreve

Blogging for me is like keeping a journal which I have done in various forms since I can remember. But what's great about this format is it offers an opportunity to explore all the things that interest me as an artist with others. Blogging seems to strengthen that sense of being part of both something personal and something universal. It takes the journaling idea and expands it through visitor's comments creating a valuable dialog that connects us to each other no matter where we live. I enjoy responding to each comment and warmly welcome your visits. email: judyshreve at mac dot com

Judy, This is how I work, always adding and subtracting, walking away, coming back
:-) . If you are working on canvas, try wiping with rubbing alcohol,I just started using it and I love what it does. I am glad you are having so much fun. This is a wonderful piece. xoxo

  2. I do understand. I keep an easel in my pottery studio and paint when I’m finished with pots for the day. The layering,(of acrylic) the density of it seems to add so much character.
Colors on top of colors , what you put next to one color to make the whole light up.
I do envy you your class!
and so enjoy seeing your results here

Oh Julie your paintings on your pottery are so fabulous! And I agree – the color choices can change everything – from toning down to making a color pop. I am really enjoying my classes. Thank you. xxoo

  3. Ohh, nice surface! I know what you mean it is seductive….I’ve been painting some too, floundering around but enjoying it. What class are you taking?

Looking at the surface again this morning, I was reminded of the surfaces you were aiming at on your earthenware pieces. Right? Even before that on the ^6 work. Interesting to see a feature turn up again and again in different areas–must be about YOU!

    • Judy Shreve says:

Hi Gay – yes – one day I posted the surface piece – of browns and golds and noticed it looked just like my banner – which is a close up of one of my pots! It made me laugh. I guess you just can’t get away from yourself lol! xxoo

So beautiful and haunting! It is so exciting and the best thing about art when one becomes so engaged in it—wanting to get up and continue on—interacting with and exploring new possibilities! Thank you for sharing—you inspired me……..

  6. Hello dear Judy! This piece is wonderful! I love adding and subtracting, too, when working with acrylics. The colors and textures you can achieve this way can be quite spectacular. I’m looking forward to catching up with all the other things you’ve been doing these last few weeks. as soon as I can.

    Love and hugs,
    xoxoxo

Hi Angela. Thank you — it is so amazing how much you can change a piece layer by layer. These Open Golden acrylics are remarkable. Have you used them? They are so much easier to blend and work with. Love & hugs to you too xxoo

I’m really drawn to these colors…soft, organic, and beautiful!!!!

    • Judy Shreve says:

Thank you Ramona – these acrylic paintings are response from an online class I am taking — learning to use the new Golden open body paints. They are very versatile and so easy to blend.
